Federal Way, Washington, located 25 miles south of Seattle, was an unincorporated town in King County with a population of 25,000 during the 70's. Progress came to this town a few years later with the development of shopping malls, grocery stores, buildings, a hospital, and the United States Bulk Mail Center. New housing sprouted from every corner and people flocked in. Among the groups of people moving to Federal Way were Filipino families.

To coincide with the impending incorporation of Federal Way to a city, a group of Filipino quasi-leaders and visionaries brought the resident Filipinos together to form an association. They believed it was deemed necessary to have an organization to represent the growing Filipino community in the new city and preserve the Filipino heritage. Thus, the non-profit Filipino-American Association of Greater Federal Way (FAAGFW) was born on January 1989.
